Good Impressions

"Second Nature", pastel, 6x6"
Learning to paint in an impressionistic  manner can be harder than you think. Somehow we find ourselves wanting to paint every blade of grass and twig that we see! Details seem to cray out to be put down!

It helps to focus on a few things...
  •  Squint!
  • Try to find 3 to 5 big shapes in the scene you are looking at
  • Use broad strokes

We will explore this more in class this week!
